SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Police Department is asking for the public’s assistance to located 65 year-old Brian Egg who was last seen at the end of July, first week of August. According to the SFPD website, officials were contacted by family members of Egg who were concerned after not seeing or hearing from him.

During both occasions, officers arrived to Egg’s home located on the 200 block of Clara Street, but did not receive a response and saw no suspicious circumstances. On August 7, the SFPD commenced a missing person investigation after a family member of Mr. Egg reported him missing. Officers responded to the home again, but were met with no response at the home.

On August 14, neighbors of Mr. Egg contacted 911 to report a suspicious person outside Egg’s home, along with a crime scene cleaning truck. Officers responded to the scene, detained the individual and were able to make entry into the home. Officers did not find Egg, but discovered evidence including cleaning products and suspicious odors in the house. On August 15, the SFPD Homicide Detail took over the investigation and a search warrant was authorized for Brian Egg’s home. While searching the location, SFPD investigators found human remains inside a fish tank.

The San Francisco Medical Examiner’s Office responded and took control of the human remains. The identity of remains is still pending.

During the course of this investigation, Homicide investigators established leads that led to the August 16 arrests of two suspects: Lance Silva, 39, of San Francisco, and Robert McCaffrey, 52, of San Francisco. They were arrested on homicide, fraud, theft, identity theft and elder abuse charges and booked into San Francisco County Jail. The charges were later discharged by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office pending further investigation. Silva remains in custody at Alameda County Jail for a probation violation.

Due to pending identification matters, booking photos will not be released at this time for both individuals.

The San Francisco Police Department is asking for the public’s help with this case. Investigators are seeking assistance from any businesses or entities that were contacted by anyone purporting to be Brian Egg, or who may have assisted in financial transactions related to Mr. Egg or his home.
