Bomb Squad Responds To Package

SAN FRANCISCO—The San Francisco Police Department bomb team was sent into the city’s Inner Richmond neighborhood following reports of a suspicious package found on the sidewalk of the 3600 block of Geary Avenue.

Law enforcement responded to the location of the suspicious box at 3:15 p.m. on Monday, February 2 resulting in a detouring of traffic between Geary and Arguello Boulevards while bomb experts performed an investigation.

Traffic lanes re-opened after it was determined the suspicious box was empty.

Muni’s route 38 Geary bus was re-directed, during the emergency investigation.

After it was determined that the package was in fact empty, private and public transportation routes re-opened.

Monday bomb scare was the second of the day in San Francisco, after Jose Ortega Elementary School received a bomb threat just before classes began.

Law enforcement officials are investigating both incidents. Anyone with knowledge of either incident is asked to contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444, or text TIP411 with “SFPD” at the beginning of the message.
