HOLLYWOOD—There were plenty of new releases at the box-office this weekend with flicks like “Snowden,” “Blair Witch” and the long-anticipated sequel “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” too bad they were no competition for last weekend’s box-office champ “Sully.” The biopic starring Tom Hanks and directed by Clint Eastwood reigned supreme for the second consecutive weekend adding $22 million to its total. In less than 10 days, the drama has already amounted over $70 million at the domestic box-office.

Landing in second place is the sequel/remake of the popular ‘witch in the woods franchise,’ “Blair Witch” with a disappointing $9.7 million. Not an impressive haul for a flick that opened in more than 3000 theaters. Perhaps audiences weren’t too intrigued with a movie about some ghost in the woods. Nabbing third place was another long-awaited sequel with “Bridget Jones’s Baby” starring Renee Zellwegger and Colin Firth with $8.2 million.

“Snowden” topped out in fourth place with $8 million, while the thriller “Don’t Breathe” rounded out the top five adding $5.6 million to its tally to bring its domestic tally just over $75 million. This weekend sees the release of the remake of the classic “The Magnificent Seven” starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt. We’ll see if major star-power can dethrone “Sully” from its grip on the box-office.
