SAN FRANCISCO—On Sunday, May 31 from approximately 1:45 a.m., as local nightlife venues were closing, an unidentified hit-and-run driver, who was driving under the influence, sped and crashed a sedan into Castro District’s Café Mystique, located on the 400 block of Castro Street near the intersection of 18th Street.

The driver drove the sedan off the road going into and demolished an outdoor dining parklet, belonging to a Castro Indian Restaurant and Bar. It hit the front wall and glass storefront of Café Mystique, causing major damage to the building, including shattered windows. City inspectors placed yellow-tag on the café. There were no reports of any injuries.

Surveillance cameras captured the male driver leave behind his car after the airbags were deployed fleeing on foot towards 18th Street.

Officers from the San Francisco Police Department arrived on the scene, but the suspect was already gone. The sedan left behind by the driver has been impounded.
