LOS ANGELES—Talks about the 2024 Olympic Games has Los Angeles bidding with over 35 contenders to host the summer games.

In February, the USOC sent 35 letters to the mayors of major cities that expressed interest in hosting the Olympic Games including Philadelphia, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. In December, the USOC will hold a meeting to discuss potential cities in the running with the bidding starting in 2015 and voting in 2017.

It has been over a decade since a city in theUnited Stateswas host city to the Olympic Games. The last time was in Salt Lake City during the 2002 Winter Games. Los Angeles has hosted the Olympic Games twice, once in 1932 and again in 1984.

Every four years the world watches the best-of-the-best of athlete sprint across the track, swim laps around the pool, and more.
