HOLLYWOOD—The nominees for the 2025 Critic’s Choice Awards were unveiled on Thursday, December 12. Do I personally think they have an impact on Awards Season? No, plain and simple, they can create buzz, but they are in no way a predictor of what the Screen Actors Guild, Writers Guild, Directors Guild or the Academy Awards will pick as their contenders of the year.
Leading the pack of films were “Conclave” and “Wicked” which each picked up 11 nominations each, including Best Picture. Followed close behind were, “Dune: Part Two” and “Emilia Perez” with 10 nominations each. I’m sorry I’m still baffled by all this love for “Dune: Part Two.” Yes, it was a major improvement from its predecessor, but I’m not sure I would consider it award worthy. Other films earning multiple nominations include “The Brutalist” with nine and “The Substance” and “Anora” with seven nods each.
Was surprised to see Nicole Kidman missing from the list for Best Actress for her work in “Babygirl.”
