HOLLYWOOD—Love was definitely in the air this weekend, especially for the comic-book flick “Deadpool.” The R-rated, and I mean R-rated flick broke tons of box-office records during Valentine’s Day and President’s Day weekend.

For starters, it took the top spot earning over $135 million, yes million in just 3 days, during the four-day weekend, the gross could reach over $150 million. The movie starring Ryan Reynolds, also earned the biggest debut for the month of February in addition, to becoming the highest opening for an R-rated flick ever. Previous record holders include “The Matrix: Reloaded” and 2015’s “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

With such a large debut, I expect a steep drop for the movie next week, but it will likely maintain its dominance with moviegoers. Nabbing second place was “Kung Fu Panda 3” with just under $20 million. The animated flick is certain to cross the $100 million mark come Monday.

Landing in third place was the romantic comedy “How to be Single” with $18.8 million. After nearly 15 years, the highly anticipated sequel “Zoolander 2” did not impress moviegoers as much earning a dismal $15.7 million. Looks like Ben Stiller and the gang should have kept the sequel unearthed. Rounding out the top five was “The Revenant” with $6.9 million.

So “Deadpool” proves that not all comic book flicks have to be PG-13 to intrigue audiences. This just leaves me wondering what demographic turned out in droves to see this movie, find it hard to imagine the elderly seeing such a pouty-mouthed, vulgar and at times shocking flick.
