HOLLYWOOD—We should start to get ready for awards season. Why? Well the nominees for the 2018 Primetime Emmy Awards were revealed on Thursday, July 12 and leading the pack of all contenders was the series “Game of Thrones” with 22 nominations. Followed close behind were the series “Westworld” with 21 nominations and “Atlanta” with 16 nominations. The nominees were announced by actress Samira Wiley from “The Handmaid’s Tale” and actor Ryan Eggold of “New Amsterdam.”

There were a few surprises this year America. No love for “Roseanne,” while cancelled many expected it to be a possible contender in the Comedy Series race. There was no love for Claire Danes or Viola Davis in the Lead Actress in a Drama Series race despite being previous winners in the category. I’m stunned by the omissions of “Will & Grace” from the Outstanding Comedy Series race, as well as actors Eric McCormack and Debra Messing in the leading races. Also missing this year were Louie C.K. and Aziz Ansari in the Lead Actor in a Comedy Series race. Like that was one of the hottest comedies on TV last year, but I will say I was happy to see Laurie Metcalf get love in the Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series race for “Roseanne.”
