UNITED STATES—As we approach Christmas, and ultimately say au revoir to 2015, it appears the time to give will disappear as well. I’ve always noticed that as Americans we are 10x more likely to give during the fall season than any other time of the year. What is it about the months of November and December that opens our hearts 100 percent, compared to the other 10 months during the year where our hearts might be 50 percent open?

To be honest, I don’t have the answer to that question. I wish I did, but I guess because November ushers in Thanksgiving, and December ushers in Christmas and the kick off of the New Year, family is at the root. We want to spend time with our families, friends and those who we care about. That reflects in most Americans deciding to give a bit more to those who are less unfortunate, in an attempt to make those who might not have the strong family unit feel loved.

I think that might be the biggest reason so many people are giving during this time of year; we want to feel like we’re doing more to help those who we might not get help as much during the rest of the year. However, that does indeed raise the question, why aren’t we doing more from January thru October?

I mean there are families who are still struggling to put food on the table. There are those people who are still living on the streets without a place to call home. Kids are still going without the basic essentials to operate on a daily basis. People are still struggling to pay for the basic utilities we all need in our daily lives.

We should implement some sort of rule, where every month we dedicate one day to giving. Of course, we’d give every single day if possible, the only problem is that not all Americans can commit to such a feat, but those who can should indeed participate in my opinion. I have that motto in life, “If you have the opportunity to give, why not do it!”

I think most Americans give because it brightens their spirits. Knowing that money you donate or items you give can potentially impact a person’s life or spirits in a way you never expected is a game-changer for a person’s psyche. That ability to give can be quite contagious. You give to one person, that person gives to another and so on; it becomes a domino effect that can be so huge it can change the world in ways you never imagined.

I’ll be the first to admit that my heart is huge, bigger than ever around the holidays. I’ve always been a giver since I was a little child. I’m starting to think it has something to do with being an Aquarius; I mean we are the zodiac sign that is known for philanthropy, so anyway we can give, change or impact lives we do our best to make it happen. Perhaps those good deeds can become more contagious to the rest of the Zodiac signs, where we just make it a habit to continue that drive to give.

I almost wish I had psychic ability to tap into people’s minds when they give. I’d really like to know precisely what they are thinking when they give. Like what questions they ask themselves. This person needs this more than me? If I give, perhaps I’ll be rewarded with something bigger later? Oh, heck it’s just a $1? I mean the thoughts exploding into my head are crazy mad right now.

Point blank, those who are giving and continue to give please continue doing what you are doing. You are making a change in the world, even if you don’t see it right away. By giving you’re showcasing to others things they should also be doing.
