UNITED STATES—The government is a powerful entity inAmerica, but just how powerful is the government in controlling our lives? More than we’d like to admit. I’ve always wondered why around tax season everyone gets into this epic frenzy about meeting the deadline for Uncle Sam. Some go crazed with the idea of having to pay a penalty for not getting payment into the IRS on time. Have you ever asked yourself the question why we pay taxes?

It’s a question that doesn’t always make since, but it’s apart of life. If you work you have to pay taxes there’s really no way to get around it, except if you’re unable to work and bring in any income. My issue is more regarding the everyday American taking a close look at government intervention. What does that mean? It means we’re not taking a more active role in government, in politics. Trust me I understand how decisive and alarming politics can be, but at the end of the day, its part of our lives. It’s better to be informed than not informed at all.

Taxes are just one facet of the government. I can’t understand for the life of me, how individuals who live below the poverty level are always paying more in taxes than those who make millions or billions of dollars a year. I won’t name companies, but I know of some major corporations who have literally made billions off of selling their product to Americans, and they barely pay a percentage of what they should be paying in taxes.  Please Congress the last thing I want to hear is, “Well, they’re employing X amount of Americans.” And your point would be? There are tons of companies who employ Americans, but at the same time they have to pay taxes just like everyone else.

That is the problem with so many individuals who get involved in politics: it’s dirty. Its not so much about representing the country, it’s about representing those who throw money their way. We don’t need to go through the list of all the dirty scandals that have taken place, just pick up the newspaper or turn to a news channel and you will know precisely what I’m referring to.

My concern is why as Americans we aren’t taking a more active role in halting government intervention, not allowing the people in charge to control every single aspect of our lives. I hate to say this, but I truly believe the everyday citizen would do a much more significant job in Congress than half of the individuals who work for the city, state or federal government. We just allow so many to go on their way doing what they want without a care in the world. We need to start caring, it effects are lives. The policies they implement, the bills they pass, the bills they don’t pass.  We cannot afford to continue to turn a blind eye to what is happening in government.

We already have a steep tax rate for most Americans, we are now mandated to have health insurance, before you know it the government will be telling us where we can live, what we can and what we cannot eat and lastly who we can spend time with and who we can’t. Open your eyes people, its time to realize that you control what happens in politics. Silence is the worse weapon when it comes to changing government. Those who speak up and advocate for change, are the crusaders to helping change the blueprint of the government titans.
