MANHATTAN, NY—On Wednesday, September 23, the disgraced movie mogul, Harvey Weinstein, 74, was sentenced to 15 years prison time for the sexual assault of his former television production assistant, Miriam “Mimi” Haley in 2006. The assault allegedly took place in a 5,000 square-foot apartment in The New Museum Building located at 158 Mercer Street in an area the locals refer to as, “SOHO.”
New York Supreme Court Judge, Curtis Farber sentenced Weinstein. The Manhattan prosecutor in this case requested a 20-year prison sentence. Weinstein’s attorneys asked for a 9-year sentence. Weinstein’s 15-year sentence is to be followed by 5-years post-release supervision and Weinstein will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
Justice Farber addressed Weinstein in court calling Weinstein a “sexual predator,” and the “literal face of the #MeToo movement. He was once considered the “King of the movie industry, but recognition for these achievements will pale in comparison to what you did.”
Ms. Haley and Weinstein were given an opportunity to speak following the trial. Weinstein has maintained his innocence since the allegations began to surface.
“Reflecting on all that has happened since 2017, has helped me recognize how my past conduct has negatively affected others. I live with many regrets and sincerely apologize to anyone I have affected with my actions,” Weinstein stated.
Ms. Haley stated, “I think he still feels entitled, and that’s part of the problem.”
Accusations of sexual assault against Harvey Weinstein began surfacing in October of 2017, with the alleged assaults dating back to the late 1970s. What initially started as several women pressing charges against the multi-billionaire, continued with over 80 women making subsequent sexual assault allegations against him.
In May of 2018, Weinstein was charged with rape in New York City. In 2020, he was found guilty of two felony counts. On March 11, 2020, he was ordered to serve 23 years in prison.
On July 20, 2021, Weinstein was extradited to Los Angeles to face additional charges at another trial. On December 19, 2022, he was found guilty of three charges and was then sentenced to 16 years in prison, served separately from his time served in New York.
The April 25, 2024, New York Court of Appeals ended in a mistrial. On June 12, 2025, Manhattan District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, found Weinstein guilty.

Weinstein kept a real estate profile that once included a 1,386 square foot cottage in West Hollywood. He sold that property off market for $1.8 million in April 2018.
Harvey Weinstein has most recently been housed in a medical unit at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan due to reported chronic health conditions.
