DUBLIN, IRELAND—On July 16, Irish actress, Brenda Fricker, best known for her role as, the Pigeon Lady in the classic Christmas film, Home Alone 2, has passed away. Fricker was born in Ireland in 1945 and has been entertaining the public on screen since 1964 in Ireland, and internationally since 1989.

At 19, Fricker, worked as an assistant to the art editor at the Irish Times. Reports indicated that her dream was to become a reporter. She became an actress by chance and has been entertaining audiences ever since.

She began her acting career in Dublin Ireland performing on screen and on television. She starred in Ireland’s first soap opera, Tolka Row, in the in the 1960s, In 1977, the ITV soap opera, BBC’s Medical Drama, Coronation Street, and she acted in the play, Licking Hitler, in 1978,

She played at least 30 distinctive roles over the decades including but not limited to; Jim Sheridan’s film, My Left Foot, in which she won Best Supporting Actress in her role as Bridget Fagan, in 1989.

She thrilled the silver screen in 1992, in her role as the crazy bird lady, acting along side the child actor, Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone 2. She performed in 72 episodes in, Casualty (1986-2010) The Field, 1990, A Time to Kill, 1996, Veronica Guerin, 2003, Albert Nobbs, 2011.

Brenda Fricker’s last role was in 2024. It was Brenda Fricker who was the voice of Maureen in the British film, The Miracle Club.

The actors and actresses that played alongside Brenda Fricker gave tribute to her memory, speaking accolades of the actress to multiple news outlets. Cathy Shipton who played Duffy Duffin, told BBC that Fricker was,

“One of the most authentic people I have ever met.”

Fricker’s former Casualty co-star Derek Thompson, who played long-running character Charlie Fairhead, paid tribute to the actress, telling BBC News:

“Truly the best I have ever worked with, and I’ve worked with a lot of actors”.
