SAN FRANCISCO—On Monday, January 6, the SFDA’s Office announced that Jose Gonzalo Rivera Flores, 29, was charged in connection with a fatal shooting in the Mission District. The defendant is charged with murder (PC 187(a)) with an allegation that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm in the commission of the murder (PC12022.53(d)).

He is also charged with carrying a concealed firearm (PC 25400(A)(2)) and carrying a loaded firearm (PC 25850(a)). He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in Department 10 at the Hall of Justice. The District Attorney’s Office moved to have him detained pending trial due to the public safety risk he poses.

According to San Francisco Police Department, on January 1, 2025, at approximately 12:25 a.m., officers responded to a gas station on the 500 block of South Van Ness Ave where they located a male victim laying on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and immediately rendered aid and summoned medics, but he later died at the scene. Details about the victim have not been disclosed to the public.

During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that the suspect fled from the scene in an SUV after the shooting occurred. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Geneva Avenue where Rivera-Flores was taken into custody without further incident.
