SAN FRANCISCO—On Thursday, January 2, the SFPD announced in a news release that a suspect involved in a Mission District murder has been arrested. The SFPD reported January 1, 2025, at approximately 12:25 a.m., officers responded to a business located on the 500 block of South Van Ness Ave on a report of a shooting.

Authorities found an adult male on the ground suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, and immediately rendered aid to the victim. Paramedics responded to the scene and rendered aid as well, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The name and age of the victim has not been disclosed to the public.  During the preliminary investigation, officers learned that the suspect fled from the scene in an SUV after the shooting occurred.

The SFPD Homicide Unit responded to the scene and took over the investigation. Officers located the suspect vehicle in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Geneva Avenue. The suspect was removed from the vehicle and subsequently taken into custody without further incident.

The SFPD developed probably cause to arrest Jose Rivera Flores, 29. He was transported and booked at the San Francisco County Jail for homicide (187(a) PC).
