HOLLYWOOD—There weren’t many major movies hitting the box-office the past weekend, but there was one notable name hoping to dethrone “The Lion King” from the top spot at the box-office. That name was Quentin Tarantino. It’s still hard for me to fathom that Tarantino has only completed nine movies during his almost 30 years in the industry. The one thing I can respect is the guy takes his time to produce quality flicks.

However, his latest flick “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” drew in audiences, but not enough to take down a Disney classic. “The Lion King” took a big tumble, but still stayed on top with $75.5 million. After 2 weeks in theaters, the Disney flick has earned over $350 million at the domestic box-office. Debuting in second place was “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” with an impressive $40 million. That’s the largest debut for a Tarantino flick to date.

Landing in third place was “Spider-Man: Far From Home” with $12.2 million to bring its domestic total to $344 million. Wow, its right on the tail of “The Lion King” people. Nabbing fourth place was “Toy Story 4” with $9.8 million. Rounding out the top five was the thriller “Crawl” with $4 million. This weekend sees the release of the spin-off “Hobbs and Shaw.” Now the “Fast and Furious” flicks have been popular, but rather Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham can carry the franchise in a new direction will be telling based on box-office receipts.
