HOLLYWOOD—Tom Cruise proved that he is still capable of opening a movie to big bucks as “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” claimed the top spot at the box-office. The fifth installment in the franchise earned $56 million in its debut weekend.
Nabbing second place was the raunchy comedy “Vacation” with just under $15.9 over the weekend, but nearly $21 million since its release on Wednesday. Not an impressive debut for a comedy that industry insiders expected to debut to higher numbers. “Ant-Man” landed in third place with $12.6 million, inching the superhero flick closer to the $150 million mark at the domestic box-office.
The “Minions” are proving to be a force to reckon with earning another $12 million to land in fourth place. It’s safe to argue the flick will cross the $300 million mark before the end of the week at the domestic box-office. Rounding out the top five was the flick “Pixels” with $10.4 million. This weekend sees the reboot of another superhero franchise as “Fantastic Four” invades the multiplex.
