SAN FRANCISCO—At 9:10 p.m. on Wednesday, July 1, a motorcycle crash injured two pedestrians crossing the street at the intersection of Market and Third Street.
Witnesses say they saw the motorcyclist speeding down Market Street, and that he couldn’t stop himself in time to avoid hitting bystanders. According to San Francisco Police Department Officer Grace Gatpadan, the cyclist lost control at the intersection and ran down two people, one in the crosswalk and one standing on the curbside corner. The motorist and the two pedestrians were transported to San Francisco General Hospital.
One of the injured bystanders was reportedly treated for life-threatening injuries upon arrival. The other sustained head lacerations, but is expected to recover.
Traffic was stopped from Market and Third to Powell for several hours afterward.
The condition of the motorcyclist remains unknown. Police are looking into the source of the collision and possible fault or accident culpability.
