SAN FRANCISCO—A suspect has been arrested by the San Francisco Police Department after an incident led to an officer-involved shooting on May 31. At approximately 10:29 p.m., officers were alerted about a robbery suspect vehicle entering San Francisco from the Bay Bridge. Officers located the vehicle, with two occupants inside, traveling on 5th Street near Folsom Street.

Officers tried to conduct a vehicle stop in the area of Mission and First Streets. The suspect driver fled from officers, leading to a vehicle pursuit. The suspected driver fled through city streets before the vehicle became disabled in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue.

When officers encountered the vehicle, the driver opened fire on officers and struck one officer multiple times. During the encounter an officer-involved shooting occurred, and the suspected driver fled on foot from the scene and the passenger of the suspect vehicle sustained injuries from the shooting. Officers quickly transported both the injured officer and the injured suspect to a local hospital.

The SFPD officer is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The suspect is also being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Additional officers responded to the scene to search for the outstanding suspect. Officers located the suspect in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Costa Street and took him into custody without incident. Officers also recovered two firearms.

The incident is being investigated by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office; the San Francisco Police Department Investigative Services Division (ISD); the San Francisco Police Department Internal Affairs Division (IAD); and the Department of Police Accountability (DPA).

The suspect who was booked for shooting a San Francisco Police officer is identified as Norris Reed III, 36, of Oakland.

He was booked into San Francisco Jail for four counts of attempted murder (664/187 PC), four counts of assault upon a peace officer with a semiautomatic firearm (245(d)(2) PC), assault with a semiautomatic firearm (245(b) PC), four counts of resisting an executive officer (69(a) PC), prohibited person in possession a firearm (30305(a)(1) PC), reckless evading (2800.2(a) CVC), armed criminal (25800 PC), violent felons with firearms (29900(a) PC), felon in possession of a firearm (29800(a)(1) PC), conspiracy (182 PC), assault a police officer with a deadly weapon to cause great bodily injury (245(c) PC), four counts of assault with a firearm (245(a)2 PC), gun enhancement charge assault with a firearm on a peace officer (12022.53/ 245 PC), prisoner on parole (3056(a) PC), carrying a concealed firearm within a vehicle (25400(a)(1) PC), and carrying a loaded firearm on their person in a vehicle (25850(a) PC)
