SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, October 10, President Barack Obama attended a Democratic National Committee fundraiser at San Francisco’s Warfield Theater.

He was in California for four fundraisers, three which were scheduled in Los Angeles and one in San Francisco. The president will spend several days vacationing in San Diego before heading back to Washington.

The 1300 attendees paid anywhere between $100-$10,000 for the SF fundraiser where President Obama gave a 30 minute speech followed by a performance by Kanye West.

Obama did not share the stage with Kanye, but did release a few statements to the 2020 presidential hopeful that has made media rounds. On August 30, West spoke about his plan to run for president while accepting the Vanguard Award at the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards.

Obama gave three tips in case West is serious about running for POTUS or as he playfully joked “Peezy.”

“First of all, you’ve got to spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show. So you’ve just got to be cool with that,” Obama said.

“Second — this is the second important tip — saying that you have a ‘Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ —that’s what’s known as ‘off-message’ in politics. You can’t say something like that. There are a lot of people who have lost their congressional seats saying things like that.”

He joked, “Do you really think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be President of the United States? That is crazy. That’s cray!”

The president discussed how under his administration, businesses were able to create 13.2 million new jobs over a 67-month time period as unemployment rates have dropped down to 5 percent.

He talked about the success of Obamacare, where more than 15 percent of Americans didn’t have insurance, now over 17 million Americans are covered and cannot be discriminated against due to preexisting conditions.

He also discussed cutting oil imports by more than half, and how marriage equality has moved in the right direction.

Obama also addressed the re-occurring national shootings. “We know we’ve got to do something to prevent the kind of gun massacre that we see — with growing frequency in this country. It’s not normal. This is not how it has to be. This is a choice that we are making. We don’t have to have young boys in Oakland getting shot every day. We don’t have to have kids in classrooms feeling threatened because somebody has got an AK-47,” said President Obama.

Obama closed out his speech discussing the significance of citizen engagement.

“If you care about the things we talked about, you’re going to have to stay active and you’re going to have to stay involved,” Obama said.

He mentioned plans for the future. “I’m just getting started. We’re going to be working side-by-side to make sure the system is responsive.”

Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and the 2015 NBA champs, the Golden State Warriors were also in attendance during the DNC fundraiser.
