UNITED STATES—Its time to ready ourselves for the Big Game, Super Bowl is upon us and the treats will be loaded in big ways. Not only will alcohol be present, so will plenty of finger foods to keep massive crowds happy and relaxed. For starters, are you hosting the big game? If so, you should have already put together a game plan. No, I’m not just referring to getting a menu prepared of food items you want to indulge with, I’m talking about the entertainment level.

I’ve been told time and time again that Super Bowl is the best time to purchase a new TV and you know what, it’s TRUE! I was in several big box retailers earlier this week and couldn’t believe the prices I spotted on 50 inch TV screens. I mean just a few years ago I paid like close to a $1,000 for a 50 inch, nowadays you can get one for under $400 bucks. Yes, I know it’s crazy, it sounds too good to be true, but it is. The reason I’m saying this is because something inevitably happens every year where there is a glitch with your technology that can cause a ripple effect with watching the big game.

Be prepared for anything. This is not to say go out and purchase two TVs, it’s to note to have a back-up plan just in case that main TV room has a few hiccups. Be careful of not inviting too many party guests to your abode. You don’t want the fun of watching the Big Game become uncomfortable for people. There should be enough sitting space for all parties including the host. If you’re wondering if someone who has proved to be a nightmare in the past, have a stern talk with them beforehand to ensure no funny behavior. If that person is unable to adhere to those rules, then they’re off the list.

Now let’s get to the good stuff: food. When it comes to choosing food items, the goal is to keep it simple. You want to have finger foods. Not things that require the use of forks, knives and other cutlery. Why? It means less clean-up for you. Of course, you’ll have the countless chips, dips, veggie and fruit trays, cookies, and other hot item desserts, but what about those proteins?

Well, wings will indeed be on the list, so will pizza, and there are a variety of toppings to choose from. Meatballs are always a great item, especially if you utilize toothpicks along the way. People toothpicks are GREAT. They can be used for multiple things, including those boneless wings that might have a sticky sauce with them. I’d say have plenty of these thin items on hand. Hey, utilize paper plates, cups, napkins, to eliminate unnecessary clean-up. Plan ahead when it comes to drinks that you plan to offer guests.

Of course alcohol will be on hand, but be sure you’re not purchasing more than you need. Remember to some degree as a host you don’t want anyone getting behind the wheel who is inebriated. I’d even argue think about the prospect of having an alcohol free party. I mean do you really need liquor and beer to have a good time, I think not, some guests might beg to differ, but if that is a concern just ensure sober drivers are on hand if someone has a bit much.

Super Bowl Sunday is one of the biggest days for wings, pizza, chips, dips, alcohol and all things that the body would like to stay away from. For those who don’t indulge much, here is that one day of the year that you can get away with it and people won’t crucify you for participating in. Enjoy the game, and I have my money on the Denver Broncos, but we’ll see if Cam Newton and the Panthers have enough firepower to halt Peyton Manning and the Broncos.
