SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, January 4, at 11:30 a.m., the San Francisco Fire Department announced on its Facebook page that it battled a gas leak in the region of 47th Avenue and Balboa Streets. Officials arrived on scene and reported a four-inch gas leak that was damaged during a city construction project.

A total of 25 families were evacuated temporarily as a result of the gas leak. They were provided a temporary shelter courtesy of the SFMTA Muni Bus and received assistance from the Red Cross. PGE arrived on the scene and worked with city crew to mitigate the hazard at 1:45 p.m.

Domestic water in the area experienced low to no pressure due to the service line being damaged. Power for around 2200 customers was cutoff as a precaution. There were no injuries reported during the incident.
