SAN FRANCISCO—On Thursday, February 6, the SFPD reported that one of their officers was injured while arresting a knife-wielding suspect in the Park District. The Police Department reported it was the second incident in two days where officers have been injured in the line of duty. The officer is recovering at the hospital.
Authorities reported it happened at approximately 8:54 a.m. when officers assigned to the Healthy Streets Operation Center (HSOC) responded to Central and Fulton Streets regarding a complaint regarding a possible encampment.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted a known male in an encampment. During the interaction, the subject began wielding a large knife. The male failed to comply with the officer’s orders to drop the knife and officers attempted to negotiate with him to reach a safe solution.
Officers were able to detain the suspect, but one officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital.
The suspect was also transported to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. At this time due to the open investigation, the SFPD are not releasing the identity of the arrested suspect who is currently receiving medical treatment.
On February 4, two officers were physically assaulted, without provocation, while they were on patrol on O’Farrell and Polk Streets. A suspect in that case was also arrested.
Anyone with details about either case is asked to contact the SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text a tip to TIP411 and begin the message with SFPD.
