SAN FRANCISCO—The Hayward BART Station was temporarily closed on Wednesday, April 25, after a shooting transpired. The incident temporarily shut down the Hayward BART station Wednesday evening, and they did not return to normal operations until Thursday morning. The police investigating the shooting were quick to refute claims that an officer was shot by the suspect, prompting further statements on Twitter:

“We are investigating a shooting that took place at the downtown Hayward BART station. A man shot at one of our officers. No one was injured by the gunfire and the man is in custody. We will provide further details as more information is revealed in the ongoing investigation (@HaywardPD).”

A spokesman for BART, Chris Filippi addressed the media, stating that the shots were reported to police at 7:28 p.m. from inside the station, which resides at 699 B Street. Sgt. John Racette indicated to the media that the events unfolded late on Wednesday night when a police sergeant walked into the Hayward BART station to notify the on-duty staff about a nearby shooting. He claimed that moments after the sergeant notified his colleagues, the suspect in the alleged shooting walked into the station and fired at least one time at the reporting officer before fleeing the scene on foot.

“Hayward Station remains closed due to investigation of earlier shooting. Suspect in custody and no current threat to public. Trains not stopping at Hayward currently but are running through. Also currently no bus service at Hayward Station,” BART tweeted Wednesday evening.

There were no reports of any injuries related to the incident.
