HOLLYWOOD—Just a day before the final awards ceremony, the Independent Spirit Awards were held on Saturday, February 23 and the big winner was the dramedy “Silver Linings Playbook” that took home four awards including Best Feature.  Could that be a sign for the movie’s chance at pulling a huge upset in the Best Picture race at the Academy Awards Sunday night?

Jennifer Lawrence picked up the award for Best Actress for her work in “Silver Linings Playbook” beating out fellow Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” John Hawkes took home the prize for Best Actor for his work in “The Sessions,” while Best Supporting Actor went to “Magic Mike” hunk Matthew McConaughey.

Oscar-winner Helen Hunt claimed the Best Supporting Actress prize for her astounding performance in “The Sessions.”  David O. Russell was a double winner at the Spirit Awards taking home awards for Best Director “Silver Linings Playbook” and Best Screenplay “Silver Linings Playbook.”

The Best Feature award was given to the teen dramedy “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.  “Amour” was victorious in the Best International Film category, just as “The Invisible War” walked away with the Best Documentary award.  Ben Richardson “Beasts of the Southern Wild” was a winner for Best Cinematography.  The John Cassavetes Award was given to “Middle of Nowhere” and the Producers’ Award went to “Stones in the Sun.”
