SAN FRANCISCO—On Sunday, September 14, 2025, at approximately 6:31 p.m. in the evening, police officers from the San Francisco Police Department responded to an emergency call between Turk Street and Golden Gate Avenue in the Tenderloin Neighborhood in connection with a shooting.
When police officers arrived at the scene, they saw a man down with a gunshot wound. Police officers attempted lifesaving first aid, the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) transported the man to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Attempts at saving this individual with the help of medical staff and first responders were to no avail, succumbing to his fatal injuries at the hospital.
In finding the suspect, San Francisco Police Department had help from the BART Police Department of West Oakland to locate the 26-year-old suspect who was identified as Frank Calloway-Garcia. He was stopped for fare evasion when he attempted to run through the emergency gate in West Oakland BART station less than an hour after the fatal shooting, which caused him to be stopped by two BART police officers. Although he tried running, BART police officers quickly caught up to him and discovered he was carrying a concealed weapon on his person. He was later identified to be the suspect in the Tenderloin shooting. After holding him back, BART police concluded he matched the description of the shooter at the Tenderloin incident reported by the San Francisco Police Department.
After Garcia-Calloway was caught, he was booked into San Francisco County Jail for charges in connection with the shooting. After the death of the victim, the District Attorney’s Office and the San Francisco Police Department’s Homicide Detail are working towards formally charging Garcia-Calloway with homicide. His next court date is set for Thursday, October 2, 2025.
