SANTA ROSA—On Sunday afternoon, August 31, 2025, a crash on Highway 12 in Santa Rosa claimed the lives of two people, according to KRON

The collision took place on the eastbound side of the highway, just west of Dutton Avenue.

Investigators explained that the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado traveled east when the truck suddenly veered to the right. The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a tree with significant force. The impact killed both the driver and a passenger who rode inside the truck.

First responders reached the scene quickly and confirmed that both individuals had died from their injuries. No other people occupied the vehicle at the time of the crash. Officials continue to work on confirming the identities of the victims before releasing their names to the public.

CHP has launched an investigation to determine what caused the vehicle to leave the roadway. Officers have asked anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have helpful information to contact the Santa Rosa CHP office. The investigation remains ongoing.

Single-Vehicle Collisions

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.

Passenger Liability

Driver liability insurance covers both those outside the vehicle and passengers inside. While it can be emotionally difficult to file a Personal Injury or Wrongful Death claim against someone close to the victim, the financial challenges after an accident can be overwhelming. As a neutral third party, an experienced personal injury attorney can help navigate these emotional complexities.
