SAN FRANCISCO—On Saturday, April 5, 2025, a domestic violence incident occurred between Jose Guadalupe Cano Flores and his victim. After she answered a telephone call, Cano Flores punched his victim multiple times, which damaged her nose. 

On Monday, April 28, 2025, after the victim answered another telephone call, Cano Flores strangled her, threw her on the ground, hit her head on a bench causing her to lose consciousness. When she came to, she tried leaving many times, but Cano Flores physically restrained her from going anywhere. He then dragged her back to the residence. The victim eventually received help from the front desk staff, who called the SFPD. Cano Flores was found in the closet.

On Friday, August 29, 2025, Cano Fores was found guilty of domestic violence (PC273.5(a)) and two counts of assault with force likely to cause great bodily harm (245(a)(4)).

Assistant District Attorney Megan Wang, with help from her paralegal team, which included Lena Ku and Loretta Luu, prosecuted this case. IT support came from Leland Chan and Noaeh Pinaire. The victim advocate was Cody Martinez, who helped the victim during this case. With help from the San Francisco Police Department Mission Station Foot Patrol, who responded to the domestic violence call and officers from the Special Victims’ Unit, who investigated in this case, the prosecuting team was able to develop a strong case against Cano Flores. 

Cano Flores is currently in police custody, and he will be sentenced on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
