WESTWOOD—As if more fuel was needed to be added to the cross-town rivalry between USC and UCLA. On Friday, November 7 a record crowd gathered at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum to see the top-ranked UCLA women’s soccer team take on USC.

The tilt, attended by 10,128 fans, shattered the previous NCAA Division I women’s soccer mark of 8,527, set by a contest between the two programs in 2010. The game, scoreless for nearly 80 minutes, was broken wide-one by UCLA senior Kylie McCarthy, whose two late goals propelled the Bruins to a 2-0 victory and the PAC-12 championship.

UCLA has now won 61 consecutive games, a streak that includes the team’s ongoing run of 667 scoreless minutes.

The Bruins, defending national champions, are now in prime position to earn a coveted No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament, a 64-team event that begins on November 14.
