SAN FRANCISCO—On July 21, at approximately 3:38 a.m., officers from the San Francisco Police Department received a call of a potential assault and battery at the intersection of Mission and 9th Streets.

Upon arriving at the scene, officers found the victim, a 68-year-old man, suffering from a head injury which officials determined was the result of a baseball bat.

Officers investigated the scene, as the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he is sustained life-threatening injuries. Authorities were able to locate the suspects involved in the attack, who have been identified as Yoel Barrera, 22, of Oakland, and a 17 year-old who identity has not yet been disclosed to the public.

Barrera was  and taken to San Francisco County Jail on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of conspiracy. The 17-year-old was booked at the San Francisco County Juvenile Justice Center on one count of attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of conspiracy.

According to the SFPD, no identification photos or mugshots are being released at this time.
