ANAHEIM—Disney disclosed on Friday, May 12 in a blog post that the nighttime attraction Fantasmic! will be re-opening at the Anaheim park this summer with new additions.

Along with the other Rivers of America attractions (Mark Twain Riverboat, Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, Sailing Ship Columbia, and Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes), Fantasmic! closed on January 10, 2016 for the commencement of Star Wars Land construction, which is reportedly 2 years away from completion.

The production, which made its debut in 1992 and takes place on a stage on Tom Sawyer Island across the Rivers of America waterway, showcases Mickey Mouse’s imagination. It features musical segments and characters (protagonists and antagonists) from various Disney films including “The Jungle Book,” “Dumbo,” “Fantasia,” “Pinocchio,” “Peter Pan,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “The Little Mermaid” “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and the 1928 cartoon “Steamboat Willie.”

While an official opening date has yet to been announced, Disney insiders have confirmed that the show’s upgrades will feature new projection technology for “brighter and more vibrant visuals.”

Segments from other Disney movies are also in the queue, one of which features Aladdin and Jasmine floating over a large cloud of fog on their magic carpet during the song “A Whole New World.”

The Disney Blog disclosed that there are rumors of a new “Pirates of the Caribbean” segment which will replace that of “Peter Pan,” and that scenes from “The Lion King” and “Tangled” will be added to the production.

More information will be posted on the Disney Parks Blog.
