SAN FRANCISCO—On Sunday, July 19, the San Francisco Fire Department before noon were dispatched to a fire in the building from callers that reported flames in the hallway on the 400 block of Jones Street.
Fire crews arrived quickly and found fire on the 1st floor of a 6-story apartment building. The fire was located in a light well (a shaft that allows natural light into the unit’s bathrooms and kitchens).
This allowed the fire to travel, and crews stopped the fire after floors 2 & 3 caught fire in the shaft. Extensive to several units made several units uninhabitable.
The Red Cross assisted those who were in need of shelter. The San Francisco Police Department, PG&E, Water Department were on scene to assist. The cause of the fire has not been disclosed to the public.
