BEVERLY HILLS—Perhaps the biggest precursor to the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes unveiled its 72nd nominees this year on Thursday, December 11. Leading this year’s list of nominees was the film “Birdman” with seven nominations including Best Motion Picture-Drama.

Looks like “Birdman” could be the film to beat this year. Followed close behind was the drama “Boyhood” with six nominations.

It was interesting to see the Golden Globe nominees and the SAG nominees for some of the major categories are almost identical with a few exceptions here and there. That’s primarily to the fact that the Globes separate drama and comedy into different category races.

There were indeed some snubs in this year’s nominees as the Angelina Jolie directed drama “Unbroken” was MIA. Also no love for the Clint Eastwood drama “American Sniper,” but remember the Globes have no overlap with the Oscars.

So while there might be some crossover, there will indeed be some prizes come January will the Academy Award nominees are announced.
