HOLLYWOOD—Many were expecting this weekend to the week that the superhero flick “Black Panther” would be dethroned from the box-office by the new Disney flick “A Wrinkle in Time.” Well, those people were wrong America. Why? “Black Panther” found a way to stay on top by adding another $41 million to its tally. So after a month in theaters, the film has earned over $560 million, and reached the $1 billion mark on a global scale. Yeah, it seems “Black Panther” is very likely to surpass Marvel’s “The Avengers” as the highest grossing comic book flick of all time within the next month or so.

Nabbing second places was the Oprah Winfrey and Reese Witherspoon family-flick “A Wrinkle in Time” with $33 million. The Disney starring directed by Ava DuVernay was expected by many to generate enough word-of-mouth buzz to dethrone the superhero flick, but the critics panned the movie and the buzz for the film is not as strong as many expected. With a budget over $100 million, it doesn’t seem like “A Wrinkle in Time” will recoup that cost.

Debuting in third place was “The Strangers: Prey at Night” with a solid $10.5 million. That is far less than I expected for the sequel. I mean its predecessor was a massive hit back in 2008, but I guess fatigue kept audiences away. The Jennifer Lawrence spy thriller, “Red Sparrow” dropped to fourth place with $8.2 million bringing its domestic total to over $30 million. Rounding out the top five was the comedy “Game Night” with $7.9 million.

This weekend sees the rebirth of another franchise as Lara Croft returns in “Tomb Raider,” only this time Angelina Jolie is not in the starring role, its Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander.
