HOLLYWOOD—The 2014 People’s Choice Awards were held on Wednesday, January 8 at the Los Angeles Nokia Theater. “Two Broke Girls” stars Kat Dennings and Beth Behrs hosted the ceremony, giving a break to popular host Kaley Cuoco who has hosted the ceremony multiple times in the past.
The ceremony was celebrated its 40th anniversary and there was plenty of star power at the event that included Sandra Bullock, Melissa McCarthy, Heidi Klum, Stephen Amell, Ian Somerhalder, Ellen DeGeneres and Justin Timberlake to name a few. I will admit the opening skit parodying some the biggest TV hits, movies and musicians was hilarious.
The big winner of the night was none other than Sandra Bullock who took home four awards including Favorite Movie Actress, Favorite Comedic Actress and Favorite Dramatic Actress.
The award for Favorite Album went to Justin Timberlake “The 20/20 Experience.” He also took home awards for Favorite Male Artist and Favorite R&B Artist. Ellen DeGeneres continued her reign as Favorite Daytime TV Host. The comedian has set a record taking home 14 trophies in her career. Favorite New Talk Show Host went to Queen Latifah, who has been a staple at the People Choice Awards hosting five times. “Castle” fans keep it coming handing out the award for Favorite Dramatic Actress to Stana Katic.
“The Voice” took home the prize for Favorite Competition TV Show, while Adam Sandler won the award again for Favorite Comedic Movie Actor. I’d argue his popularity was big maybe 10 years ago, not so much now though. Favorite Network TV Drama went to “The Good Wife.”
The award for Favorite On-Screen Chemistry went to “The Vampire Diaries” stars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder, who even though they are no longer dating, still emit tons of chemistry with one another. Britney Spears won her first People Choice Award for Favorite Pop Artist. Favorite Comedic TV Actress went to a very deserving Kaley Cuoco for “The Big Bang Theory” who has hosted the ceremony the last two times and “Glee” star Chris Colfer took home the prize for Favorite Comedic TV Actor.
Robert Downey Jr. won the award for Favorite Movie Action Star for his work in “Iron Man 3.” The movie also won the award for Favorite Action Movie. Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson gave a heartfelt and inspiring speech during her acceptance of the award for Favorite Humanitarian Award. Sarah Michelle Gellar took home her first People’s Choice Award for Favorite New TV Actress for CBS’ “The Crazy Ones.” During her speech, she gave a shot out to all the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” fans. “The Big Bang Theory” had a lot to celebrate taking home the prize for Favorite Network Comedy Series.
With the People’s Choice Awards now over, the award season is in full-swing. We have the Golden Globes on Sunday, the Critic’s Choice Awards on Thursday and the Academy Awards will be announced on that same day. Awards season is becoming quite the treat in 2014!
