SAN FRANCISCO—Nikolas Tomasevic was a member of San Francisco’s Aquatic Park Dolphin Club. He was also an experienced and dedicated swimmer since he swam in Aquatic Park several times a week.
The 35-year-old Tomasevic was last seen swimming at approximately 10:15 a.m. near the Eureka, a historical steamboat at the San Francisco’s Maritime National Historical Park on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Aquatic Park. His swimming partner and Tomasevic went off separately and he was supposedly about to swim back towards Dolphin Club.
However, a strong flood current moved into the bay that morning. The water in the park is eight to ten feet deep with temperature at mid to low 6os.
A fellow swimmer of Tomasevic’s said he may have been triggered by a medical condition of a seizure disorder while he was in the water.
Rescue crews from the San Francisco Police Department’s Marine Unit and San Francisco Fire Department were called four hours after he went missing. Rescue crews searched the shoreline and in the water. Efforts to find him included water rescue swimmers, helicopters and a remote-operated vehicle. While searching for him, other people were warned off from the area so as not to hinder the search.
But the rescue crew soon gave up by 4:11 p.m. Saturday due to poor visibility. The active search has been suspended Sunday, August 24, 2025. Now San Francisco Police Department is jumpstarting a recovering effort for Tomasevic’s body.
