Benicia, CA – On the morning of Monday, December 8, 2025, a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 780 resulted in the death of a man in his 20s, according to KRON.
CHP reports that the accident occurred around 7:45 AM in the westbound lanes near the Southampton Road on-ramp.
Authorities said the driver was traveling in a silver Toyota RAV4 when the vehicle struck a guardrail. Emergency responders arrived quickly and found the driver had sustained fatal injuries in the crash. Despite efforts to provide medical assistance at the scene, the man was pronounced dead on-site.
The California Highway Patrol noted that unsafe speed appears to have been a contributing factor, though a full investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the collision. No other vehicles or individuals were involved, and the scene was cleared after officials completed initial assessments.
Investigators are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the crash, including traffic conditions and road factors, to understand how the incident occurred and to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
Single-Vehicle Collisions
In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility. California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages.
Wrongful Death Claims & Comparative Negligence
Determining fault in a collision can involve multiple factors, and under California’s Comparative Negligence rule, several parties can share partial responsibility.
Should someone else be found even partly responsible for the death, the family may be able to file a Wrongful Death claim against the at-fault driver’s insurance. This can provide compensation to help cover medical bills, funeral expenses, and the loss of income to support the family of the deceased.
