HOLLYWOOD—It was a battle of the paranormal vs. a bunch of pets at the box-office over the weekend. Any guesses as to who came out on top. Well, for the second consecutive weekend, “The Secret Life of Pets” maintained the top spot taking in $50.6 million to bring its domestic total over the $200 million mark.

I made the argument a few weeks ago that the animated flicks are producing massive bucks at the box-office and it looks like that’ll continue this weekend as well with the latest installment in the “Ice Age” franchise arriving in theaters.

Nabbing second place in a close race was the reboot of “Ghostbusters” with an all-female cast including Kristin Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones” with a solid $46 million. While, expectations for the flick were expected to be even higher, it’s still a solid debut for a flick that got so much flack, so its proof audiences don’t always care what critics have to say.

Looks like one of the sleeper’s at the box-office this summer is “The Legend of Tarzan” which landed in third place adding another $11.1 million to bring its domestic total to $103 million. “Finding Dory” landed in fourth place with $11 million. After over a month in theaters, “Dory” has amounted over $445 million at the domestic box-office.

Rounding out the top five is the comedy “Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates” with $7.5 million.  “The Purge: Election Year” proves to have quite a bit of legs with another $6.1 million bringing its domestic total to $7.1 million. This weekend sees the release of the animated flick “Ice Age: Collison Course” and the thriller “Lights Out.”
