Inmate Killed by Sheriff’s Deputies

SAN BRUNO—A 58-year-old inmate was killed on Monday, January 26 during a scuffle with San Francisco sheriff’s deputies while being held in San Bruno.

The inmate was killed after authorities attempted a search of the inmate while in lockup in County Jail Number Five. A San Mateo County Coroner autopsy report showed the time of death to be approximately 9:30 a.m.

The inmate was killed during an altercation with SF sheriff’s deputies.

The sheriff’s department has not released a comment as the investigation is still ongoing and has yet to be completed.

Because the death occurred in San Bruno, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office, San Mateo County coroner’s office, and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s office will oversee the ensuing investigation.

Criminal investigators and internal affairs officers from San Francisco will conduct their own investigations. As the investigation is in its early stages, the identity of the slain inmate is being kept confidential.
