The sheriff’s department has not released a comment as the investigation is still ongoing and has yet to be completed.

Because the death occurred in San Bruno, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s office, San Mateo County coroner’s office, and the San Mateo County Sheriff’s office will oversee the ensuing investigation.

Criminal investigators and internal affairs officers from San Francisco will conduct their own investigations. As the investigation is in its early stages, the identity of the slain inmate is being kept confidential.
