UNITED STATES—Tuesday, September 10 was a big day for Apple as they announced details regarding new products including the latest cellphone amongst other things. This got me thinking: why are we always so eager to get our hands on the latest technology? By now, you all know about apple unveiling its latest model of the iPhone, iPhone 11 which has some new gadgets to leave mouths salivating. This time instead of one camera, there are three cameras on the back of the phone.

I’m not sure why you need three cameras in the exact same location. Doesn’t make much sense, but we know that people will be clamoring to place pre-orders and spending big bucks to get their hand on the device that is supposed to greatly improve their lives. For those looking to get their hands on that device it starts off at around $699, but can range up to $1000 depending on the model of the phone that you choose to purchase.

Yeah, the thought of spending over $1000 for a phone just baffles me to the core. It will never happen; I don’t care how much money I have, that is just crazy. I don’t think it’s worth it because having your phone do everything for you is not a smart thing if you ask me. Who am I to make that decision? It just screams the fact that technology will always be evolving. You can expect a new Apple iPhone each year, so it begs the question should you wait to get the device when its way more affordable?

YES! I remember when the iPod was first released I desperately wanted it, but the thought of spending $100 on a small device just wasn’t happening. Then the updated version of the iPod was released that was slightly bigger in size and allowed you to watch movies, which I just desperately wanted. After a bit of back and forth, I actually spent the $150 bucks for the device and it was one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. However, less than a week of having the device it broke. Thankfully, I purchased a warranty and the retailer HAD to give me a brand new device.

This isn’t just with phones people. This applies to TVs, Blu-ray players, movies, cameras, laptops, desktops, the list goes on and on. When new technology comes out, so many of us want to have our hands on it as soon as we can and I don’t think it has anything to do with bragging to others, I think we want to see what all the fuss is about in regards to this new device. Is it truly a game-changing piece of technology?

For some people, the answer is yes. I mean just recall when VHS was the go to method when it came to watching movies at home. Do you recall having to rewind those tapes if you ever wanted to watch the movie again? Then we got DVDs, which placed movies on a disc, then Blu-rays an elevated version of the DVD with a crispier visibility, before we currently stand with the HD 4K version of cinema. We used to just have plain old laptops, now we have laptops that can literally fold in half and act as a tablet at the same time. The notion of versatility has reached an all-time high if you’re asking me.

What I’m saying here is no matter how hard you try to keep up with the latest technology trends you will not be able to do so. Why? Technology is always updating, you’ll constantly be fleshing out the money to keep up with the Joneses and as I tell people, how does that benefit you in the long run. Yes, you might be the cool guy or girl, but your bank account or funds will take a hit as a result of it. So what matters in the long run? Think about it!
