HOLLYWOOD—Audiences have been spooked quite a bit in the recent month at the multiplex with both “It” and “Annabelle: Creation” drawing in big numbers. Well, a sequel about a group of debonair spies rose to the top spot this weekend. “Kingsman: The Golden Circle” debuted to a solid $39 million in its opening weekend. That is indeed a strong debut, but I suspected the flick to draw even bigger business considering the A-list cast involved and how much of a sleeper the first flick was in 2015.

I do believe it will suffer a bit of fatigue at the box-office with more drama heavy flicks arriving in theaters in the coming weeks. “It” dropped to second place earning another $30 million to bring its domestic tally to over $260 million. Yeah, that horror flick is certain to amount at least $300 million or more before ending its run in theaters.

Well, it looks like not everyone loves Legos. “The Lego Ninjago Movie” disappointed with a mere $21.2 million during its debut weekend. That is a far cry from the “The Lego Movie” which opened to more than $70 million in in 2014, and this year’s “The Lego Batman Movie” opened to over $50 million. It will be a surprise if the animated flick actually amounts $50 million domestically before ending its run in the theater.

Nabbing fourth place was the action-flick “American Assassin” which added $6.2 million to its tally. Rounding out the top five was a close battle between the comedy “Home Again” and “mother!” where both are estimated to earn around $3.3 million. Which film comes out on top will be determined when official numbers are released on Monday. This weekend sees the return of Tom Cruise to the box-office with the drama “American Made” and the remake of the 1995 classic “Flatliners” this time with Ellen Page in the driver seat.
