SAN FRANCISCO—Zachary Jordan-Smith, an 11-year-old boy who was reported missing after last being seen leaving his Concord elementary school going towards a BART station on April 15, has been found. Smith, who is autistic, prompted a search effort and social media support to locate him.

According to a press release from the San Francisco Police Department, the child was found later in the afternoon on Friday in traffic along a busy and dangerous stretch of Alemany Boulevard in San Francisco. Alice Caruthers, a San Franciscan spotted the boy from her office window and rushed outside to bring him inside to safety.

She phoned 911 and SFPD Ingleside Sgt. Lisa Springer-who knew Zachary and his family, brought the child to the Ingleside Station, where he was reunited with his parents. Smith did not suffer any injuries during his ordeal.

“The SFPD would like to thank Ms. Caruthers- her initiative shows that good things happen when citizens get involved,” states the release.
