San Francisco, CA—On the night of Tuesday, February 5, 2025, a motorcycle crash on the transition between southbound US-101 and eastbound Interstate 80 resulted in a fatality, according to CHPFatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the crash was first reported at 11:19 p.m. in Lane One of the transition road. Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after and initiated a traffic break.

Authorities confirmed that a black 2024 Yamaha MT-07 motorcycle was involved in the crash. The rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. The San Francisco Fire Department was called in to assist, and a washdown of the crash site was later conducted.

Investigators arranged for the motorcycle to be towed as evidence. The San Francisco County Coroner’s Office was notified and arrived at the scene to take custody of the victim. The transition from US-101 South to I-80 East was temporarily closed while officials conducted their investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.

Single-Vehicle Collisions and Comparative Negligence

In some cases, investigations may reveal that even in a single-vehicle accident, nearby drivers or unsafe road features share some responsibility.

California’s Comparative Negligence rule means that, even if those injured in accidents are found partially at fault, they may still be eligible to receive partial compensation for damages. A personal injury attorney can play a critical role in sorting through these details to help victims and their families get the compensation they deserve.
