Orinda, CA—On the morning of Friday, March 14, 2025, a multi-vehicle collision off-ramp resulted in multiple fatalities and lane closures, according to CHP Fatal.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reports that the accident took place around 8:24 a.m. on eastbound State Route 24 near Gateway Boulevard.

The collision involved at least five vehicles, including a red sedan, a black truck, a black Jeep, a silver truck, and a blue hatchback. One vehicle overturned, blocking lanes number two and number three, while debris was reported in the slow lane. The crash caused significant congestion as emergency responders worked to assess injuries and clear the wreckage.

Emergency responders, including Contra Costa County Fire Department personnel, arrived to provide aid to injured parties. By 8:29 a.m. authorities confirmed at least one fatality.

A SigAlert was issued at 8:56 a.m., shutting down all eastbound lanes of SR-24 at Wilder Road. Traffic was diverted to the Wilder off-ramp, with officials advising drivers to seek alternative routes. Tow trucks were requested to remove multiple damaged vehicles, including a Ford Flex and a red Toyota Corolla.

By 11:08 a.m., all tow trucks had cleared the scene, but the coroner was still on-site. CHP confirmed that multiple fatalities occurred as a result of the crash. At 11:34 a.m., the SigAlert was lifted, and all lanes were reopened.

The CHP continues to investigate the cause of the collision and has not yet released the identities of the deceased. Authorities urge witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to come forward.
