UNITED STATES—I will admit this past Sunday was a chore because on one TV screen I was watching NFL football, on the other screen I was watching the Golden Globes. Notably, I was watching the BIG GAME and I mean BIG GAME between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings. Why was this important? Both teams were 14-2 and whoever won the game would hold the NFC #1 seed, get a Bye Week and have home field advantage during the playoffs.
The loser would drop to the #5 seed and have to go on the road and play the Los Angeles Rams. Yes, I have been trying my best to wrap my head around how the NFL does its seeding because it makes absolutely no sense. However, there are divisions, and the team that wins their division gets a higher rank. I just find it baffling that a team with a 14-3 record is forced to play on the road against a team with a record that is not that spectacular.
With that said, I normally NEVER watch my home team, the Detroit Lions play. In previous years, the team has been horrid, they just have and when you go 0-16 that says a lot. Now, in the past three years things have changed, last year was the start as we made it all the way to the NFC Championship Game but lost to the San Francisco 49ers. The Lions got revenge on the 49ers this year, and they managed to put a stomping on them.
I was anxious watching this game and the first two quarters were intense, but come the third quarter, the Lions started getting things into gear and before you know it, it was a 31-9 victory, limiting the Vikings to three field goals and NOT A SINGLE TOUCHDOWN. The city has never been more exciting to reside in; fans are in a tizzy, the national buzz and respect we’re getting right now is one of a kind, not to mention the amount of revenue that is about to dawn upon the city is unlike anything ever seen before.
Someone said something to me that had me reeling. Two games, if the Lions win the next two games they play at home, they will go to the Super Bowl for the first time ever! Yes, the first time ever and I can only imagine the amount of energy and excitement this city will have if it does happen, and I feel like 2025 could finally be our year.
With that said, the Vikings could return to the Motor City in two weeks as Coach Dan Campbell said while chatting with Vikings Coach Kevin O’Connell. That will indeed be a fun game because the Vikings would be out for blood and the Lions would have to battle a hell of a team they already defeated twice. I will be honest if there is a team I’m concerned about it would perhaps be the Philadelphia Eagles that is a #2 seed and they will battle the Green Bay Packers. I would not be mad seeing a Lions/Eagles NFC Championship Game.
With that said you have the AFC which has always intrigued me because I’m so over the Kansas City Chiefs. I was stunned they allowed the Denver Broncos run over them with a 38-0 victory to give Denver an opportunity to play in the playoffs for the first time in a very long time. Makes sense you don’t want to risk any of your major players getting injured as you go into the actual playoffs where every game matters.
There is a lot of buzz around the Baltimore Ravens and Lamar Jackson and he should not be underestimated, the Chiefs got the best of them last season, so the Ravens might be out for some blood, but then you have the team that keeps getting the short end of the stick in Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills.
In my heart of hearts, I want to see a Buffalo and Detroit Super Bowl. One it would be a rematch after Buffalo delivered us our second loss of the season, and I think it would be a fantastic game to watch. Also I would be made to see a KC and Detroit Super Bowl for the Lions to deliver a brutal punch on the Chiefs and see them walking off the field in tears. Could we see upsets? Absolutely, it happens all the time and I would be surprised with the Houston Texans making a run for things, and like I said, the Ravens are one to watch. KC might not make it to the Super Bowl for 2025 as much as people expect and if the Bills don’t knock them off, the Ravens might be the one to do it.
Yes, I’ll be watching football next Sunday, despite my team having the week off because it matters who plays next.
