SAN FRANCISCO—The Outside Lands Music Festival returned to Golden Gate Park on Friday, August 5.
The festival is in its ninth year and drew more than 70,000 people on its first day, according to the San Francisco Gate. Outside Lands is more than a weekend of music; it has evolved into an artistic and cultural hotbed that now includes comedy performances, art exhibits, and an array of eclectic food and drink options.
Some of the performances that took place on the first day included musical performances by Grimes, Mike Snow, and J. Cole, and comedic performances by John Mulaney and Beth Stelling.
The food and drink components offered many options for concertgoers during the festival. This year Wine Lands is not only including boutique California wineries, but is adding larger brands such as Georges Duboeuf and the Prisoner. A highlight on the grounds is a mini golf course that includes a wine pairing with each hole.
Craft cocktails are created throughout the grounds by some of the best local bartenders that San Francisco has to offer.
For music headliners, Duran Duran rocked with stage with classic performances including “Hungry Like a Wolf” and “Wild Boys” as well as a cover of the late David Bowie’s hit “Space Oddity” to honor the music icon.
Saturday’s music performances will feature Big Grams with Big Boi and Phantogram, Radiohead, and Zedd, The festival will close out on Sunday with Third Eye Blind, Major Lazer, Lana Del Rey and Lionel Richie.
