SAN FRANCISCO—On Monday, September 23, at approximately 8 p.m., Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) shut off power to about 24,000 customers in the North Bay and the Sierra Foothills.

PG&E announced in a press release that the shutdown was “initiated due to dry and windy conditions, with increased fire risk.” Once it is deemed safe to do so, PG&E announced that it would “work to visually inspect each mile of… power lines to ensure they are free from damage and safe to energize.”

Throughout the day on Tuesday, September 24, PG&E continued to monitor the weather conditions of the counties affected by the shutdown, but are working on restoring power to their customers in cities within Butte, Nevada, and Yuba County.

PG&E reported that as of 11 a.m. on Tuesday, power had been restored to about 6,700 customers within the affected cities. The company will make their final decision about initiating a second Public Safety Power Shutoff event (PSPS), and if they decide to proceed with the PSPS it will most likely occur during the late afternoon or evening on Tuesday.
