HOLLYWOOD— Some evenings are about music, while others offer an opportunity to reflect on life, family, and the importance of human connection. On September 15, the Bergen Performing Arts Center welcomed Grammy Award-winning superstar P!NK and renowned clinical psychologist and bestselling author Dr. Shefali Tsabary for a special evening devoted to conscious parenting and personal growth.
The event celebrated the launch of Dr. Shefali’s two new books, Raising Conscious Sons and Raising Conscious Daughters, with P!NK serving as moderator for an intimate fireside conversation. Rather than performing her chart-topping hits, the singer took part in a discussion about raising children and navigating the challenges of modern family life.
For those familiar with P!NK’s extraordinary career, seeing her in this setting offered a refreshing change of pace. Known for her powerful voice, spectacular aerial performances, and fearless personality, P!NK has spent more than two decades captivating audiences worldwide.
Born Alecia Beth Moore, the Pennsylvania native has earned numerous accolades throughout her career, including three Grammy Awards. Her hits, including “Just Give Me a Reason,” “Raise Your Glass,” and “What About Us,” have become anthems for fans who appreciate her honesty, independence, and willingness to embrace individuality.
Beyond her musical accomplishments, P!NK is also a mother of two, making her participation in a conversation about parenting especially meaningful.
Dr. Shefali, a Columbia-trained clinical psychologist and founder of the Conscious Parenting movement, has devoted much of her career to helping parents develop stronger relationships with their children. Her approach encourages adults to examine their own emotional experiences while allowing children to develop their individual identities.
Her latest books address the pressures facing today’s children, including social expectations, emotional challenges, digital influences, and the importance of developing confidence and resilience.
The evening offered an opportunity to consider how parenting has evolved and why communication, compassion, and emotional awareness remain essential in raising the next generation.
As a mother and grandmother, I found the subject particularly meaningful. No matter how old our children become, we never stop caring about their happiness, their struggles, or the decisions they make.
Parenting does not come with a perfect instruction manual. Every generation faces different challenges, and sometimes the most valuable thing we can offer our children is the reassurance that they are loved and supported.
The evening also held a special personal moment for me.
I had brought a beautiful bouquet of pink roses to present to P!NK, and I was thrilled when I had the opportunity to hand them to her.
She graciously thanked me, and I mentioned that she shares her September 8 birthday with my daughter, Kelly.
Her response was so sweet. She said, “Aww, that’s so sweet.”
I must admit, I was so excited that the entire exchange seemed to happen in a blur! Sometimes, when you finally meet someone you admire, you forget half of what you planned to say.
Nevertheless, it was a wonderful moment that I will always remember.
Throughout my years as an entertainment columnist, I have attended countless concerts and special events and have had the pleasure of meeting many talented performers. Yet, it is often the simplest interactions that leave the most lasting impressions.
A kind word, a warm smile, or a brief personal exchange can mean just as much as an elaborate performance.
What made this particular evening especially memorable was the combination of entertainment and a subject that touches every family. Whether someone is raising young children, navigating the teenage years, or enjoying life as a grandparent, the importance of understanding and connecting with loved ones never disappears.
P!NK’s participation brought a familiar face to an important conversation, while Dr. Shefali’s work offered an opportunity to reflect on the emotional needs of children and parents alike.
As I left Bergen PAC, I found myself thinking about the evening and smiling over my brief encounter with P!NK.
September 8 has always been special because it is my daughter Kelly’s birthday. Now, it will also remind me of the evening I presented pink roses to a remarkable entertainer who happens to share that same birthday.
Sometimes, the most unforgettable memories are created through the simplest gestures.
Rose’s Scoop: After attending so many concerts and celebrity events over the years, I have learned that the moments behind the spotlight can be just as memorable as the performances themselves. Presenting P!NK with pink roses and sharing that special birthday connection was a lovely reminder that kindness and genuine human connection never go out of style. And while P!NK did not sing a single note that evening, her appearance alongside Dr. Shefali offered something equally meaningful: an opportunity to reflect on family, love, and the importance of raising children who feel heard, understood, and appreciated.
Until next time, that’s Rose’s Scoop!
