SAN FRANCISCO—Following a search for a person of interest case where severed human body parts were found in a suitcase and dumpster in the city’s South of Market area, SF police officers have detained two people who were taken to the Hall of Justice for questioning.

Mark Andrus was taken into custody by the SFPD on January 30 at the apartment of his friend Mark Keever. According to authorities, surveillance footage captures Andrus in the area in which the suitcase full of human body parts was dumped outside a Goodwill store.

Severed
Andrus was captured by surveillance footage near the scene of the crime.

Following Andrus’ detainment, Keever has publicly insisted that his friend has been wrongfully accused and is the unfortunate product of being caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The medical examiner’s officer and the state Bureau of Forensic Services are attempting to identify the dismembered victim. To date, the victim has only been described as an “unidentified light-skinned male.”

The SFPD will have until Tuesday, February 3 to build a case against Andrus that will allow formal charges to be pressed. While the investigation is ongoing, anyone with information concerning the case is urged to contact the San Francisco Police Department at (415) 575-4444, or text TIP411 with “SFPD” at the beginning of the message.
