UNITED STATES—The White House released transcripts of the phone conversation between President Donald Trump with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy from July 25. White House Press Secretary, Stephanie Grisham uploaded the conversation in its entirety.
In the course of the conversation, a memorandum that was five pages long were released to the public. Starting with small talk, the two spoke of how things were going in their respective countries. President Zelenskyy told President Trump they were trying to work hard to “drain the swamp here in our country. We brought in many, many new people. Noth the old politicians, nott he, typical politicians because we want to have a new format and a new type of government. You are a great teacher for us and in that.”
President Trump reminded Ukranian President Zelenskyy that the U.S. does a lot for his country and a lot better partnership than the European Union. “The United States has been very, very good to the Ukraine,” said President Trump.
President Zelenskyy responded “You are absolutely right. Not only 100%, but actually 1000%” covering the context of a meeting Zelenskyy had with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and President of France Emmanuel Macron regarding the European Union stating that the U.S. is a much bigger partner than the European Union and that the U.S. does quite a lot for Ukraine.
In the memorandum, Former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden were discussed. President Trump was inquiring about a very good prosecutor from the Ukraine that Vice President Biden, “went around bragging about that he stopped the prosecution.” President Trump asked President Zelenskyy if he would look into it for him and there was no other mention of Biden or his son in the memorandum.
In response, President Zelenskyy spoke of a former U.S. ambassador by the name of Ivanovich saying they agreed she was a “bad ambassador.” He went on to say that her attitude towards him was far from the best as she admired the previous President.
President Trump promised to have Rudy Giuliani and Attorney General William Barr give President Zelenskyy a call.
President Zelenskyy invited President Trump to come visit the city of Kyiv or visit Poland on September 1 and then travel to Ukraine suggesting they take President Trump’s plane as “it is probably much better than mine,” said Zelenskyy before ending the conversation with, “Bye-Bye.”
