HOLLYWOOD HILLS—The rapper known as Pop Smoke, 20, was fatally shot on Wednesday, February 19 in what appears to be a home invasion.
Pop Smoke, whose real name is Bashar Barakah Jackson, was shot and killed after four men showed up in the driveway wearing black hoodies and ski masks.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, Hollywood Patrol officers responded to a radio call of a shooting near the 2000 block of Hercules Drive at 4:10 a.m.
Two of the suspects entered the home and fired multiple shots, seriously injuring the musician. Two men are said to have left the scene on foot. Pop Smoke was rushed by ambulance to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in West Hollywood where he was pronounced dead.
The rapper posted the address of the home he was staying in earlier in the day via social media. He had been receiving gifts to congratulate him on his mix tape reaching #7 on the Billboard 200 chart on February 18. One of the gift bags he received showed off the address of the home where he was staying.
The home where the musician was in during his murder is owned by “Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills” star Teddi Mellencamp and her husband, Edwin Arroyave, who own several properties in Los Angeles. The rapper is believed to have been renting the property.
No suspects have been arrested in connection to the fatal shooting. It is unknown if the rapper knew the suspects.
